Thomas Barton

Tom was sworn in as a police officer for North Coventry Township Police Department on May 13, 2011. After graduating from Monsignor Bonner High School in 1983, Tom enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant in 1987 and entered the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in 1989. Tom retired from the Pennsylvania State Police in 2010 at the rank of corporal. He has spent more than twenty years serving the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the citizens of Chester County while stationed at Troop J, Embreeville in Coatesville, PA.

Tom has experience investigating all types of crime involving assaults, theft, burglary, child abuse, domestic abuse, rape, identity theft, missing persons, DUI investigations, under-age drinking, motor vehicle crash investigations including fatalities, possession of illegal substances, vandalism, arson investigation, auto theft, wire tapping violations, harassment, forgery, fraud, homicide, and suicide.

In addition to the regular duties as a Pennsylvania State Trooper, Tom received specialized training and experience within the PA State Police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) and the PA State Police Fire Marshal Unit which provided him with opportunities to train and work with other law enforcement agencies throughout the state and from across the country. Tom has personally worked and trained with members of the FBI, ATF, US Marshals, Secret Service, Immigration, and Homeland Security.

Tom was an active member of the Pennsylvania State Troopers Association and served as President of FOP Lodge 66 representing Troopers in both Chester and Lancaster County. Now in retirement he remains active serving on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania "Troopers Helping Troopers" Foundation. During off duty hours Tom enjoys spending time with his family, physical fitness, home improvement projects, and sailing. He participates in community events and sports organizations along with serving as a volunteer firefighter with the First West Chester Fire Company since 1991.
